The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has called on young officers of the Service to adopt innovation, discipline, and resilience as guiding principles in their careers, stressing that the future of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) rests on their commitment to excellence.
Delivering the charge at the graduation ceremony of 50 students of Junior Course 22, held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Adeniyi—represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resources Development, DCG Greg Itotoh—commended the officers for their hard work and perseverance.
According to him, the training prepared the participants not only for higher responsibilities but also for the challenges inherent in Customs operations. He urged the graduates to apply their knowledge in the field, noting:
“We can forget the harsh corrections, the restrictions, and the pain of training, but let us never forget the lessons learnt. As you return to your units, face the unknown with courage and determination, because as Customs officers, our duties are laced with challenges.”
The CGC, through his representative, also emphasized that under his leadership, the NCS prioritises innovation, urging the officers to embrace initiatives that enhance efficiency and strengthen the Service’s global reputation.
In her remarks, the Commandant of the College, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Oluyomi Adebakin, described the day as a unique milestone in the institution’s mission to groom officers for leadership roles. She explained that Junior Course 22 was designed to prepare young officers for complex and evolving operational environments, integrating academic work with physical exercises, health checks, teamwork activities, and character assessments.
“Beyond academics, the course incorporated health checks, physical exercises, and activities that tested punctuality, teamwork, and conduct, all of which aimed to produce well-rounded officers,” ACG Adebakin said.
Outstanding participants received awards in leadership, discipline, marksmanship, and academic excellence, while all 50 graduates were presented with certificates to mark the completion of their course. The Commandant urged them to serve as good ambassadors of the College as they returned to their respective Commands.
