Reverend John Joseph Hayab, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory, is speaking out against what he says are unfair and misleading attacks on Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement reported by Vanguard Newspapers, Hayab described the reports targeting Seyi as “deliberate misinformation” designed to damage reputations and create division. He called on media outlets and political commentators to refrain from dragging family members of public officials into political battles unless there is clear and verifiable evidence.
Hayab’s remarks reflect a broader concern about the tone of public discourse in Nigeria, especially in the age of viral misinformation. He urged the public to focus on substance—on policy, governance, and the performance of those in office—rather than sensational stories about their relatives.
For Hayab, it’s not just about defending one person. It’s about defending a standard of decency in politics that he fears is slipping away.
