A somber mood enveloped Haruna Bus Stop, off College Road in Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos, early this morning following the alleged suicide of an unidentified man, whose body was discovered hanging from a burglar-proof fence around 5:15 a.m.

According to tricycle operators at the scene, the victim’s presence initially went unnoticed. It was only when some of them approached out of curiosity that they were met with the disturbing sight of the man’s lifeless body.
“We didn’t know what was happening at first. It was still dark. But after a while, some of us went closer and saw his body hanging,” one of the commercial tricycle drivers recounted, visibly shaken.
The circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear, and the identity of the deceased has not been confirmed. The location of the act — a busy public area — has left many residents in shock, with several bystanders gathering at the scene trying to piece together what might have led to the tragedy.
Efforts to reach officials of the Nigerian Police Force for comments or confirmation have so far been unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
Authorities are expected to begin an investigation into the matter and retrieve the body. Meanwhile, local residents are calling for urgent mental health awareness campaigns and improved emergency response mechanisms to help prevent such incidents in the future.
This incident marks another grim reminder of the growing need for mental health support services in Nigeria.
