The much-awaited Second Session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM) began this morning as Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and his wife, Maria Lúcia Alckmin, landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport’s Presidential Wing.
The high-profile visit, which begins today, is anticipated to result in major policy achievements in a number of sectors and marks a turning point in Nigeria’s South-South diplomatic relationship.
Senator Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President; Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment; Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Minister of Livestock Development; Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security; and other high-ranking Nigerian government officials welcomed the Brazilian delegation.
The visit is “a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s renewed hope agenda,” Senator Hadejia said during the airport reception, highlighting the strategic significance of strengthening ties with Brazil.
“This dialogue mechanism represents our commitment to leveraging South-South partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to our citizens… Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial development aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s transformation priorities and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Senator Hadejia stated.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1961, Nigeria and Brazil have worked together in the fields of culture, economy, and the environment for more than 50 years.
