Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, has declared that meaningful connectivity is central to unlocking the full potential of the nation’s digital economy, underscoring it as a critical pillar of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In a statement posted on his verified X handle, the Minister announced the high-level design for Project BRIDGE, an ambitious initiative to deploy 90,000 kilometres of fibre-optic infrastructure across Nigeria. The unveiling took place at an event hosted in collaboration with the Association of Telecom Operators of Nigeria (ATCON).
Describing Project BRIDGE as the most ambitious and foundational digital infrastructure initiative in Nigeria’s history—and currently the largest digital fibre backbone investment in any developing nation—Dr. Tijani emphasised its transformative potential in bridging the country’s connectivity gap.
“Together, we will bridge the digital divide and ensure that more Nigerians can participate in and benefit from a thriving digital economy,” he wrote.
The Minister called on industry partners and stakeholders to actively engage in the next phase of the rollout, signalling the government’s commitment to building a robust, inclusive, and future-ready digital ecosystem.
Project BRIDGE is expected to significantly boost internet penetration, enhance service reliability, and create new opportunities in education, commerce, and innovation for millions of Nigerians.
