Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has fired back at his former aide Daniel Bwala over a comment suggesting that “God does not intend” for Atiku to ever become Nigeria’s president. Atiku, who ran as the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the 2023 election, called Bwala’s statement arrogant and presumptive, questioning how any human being could claim insight into divine intent.
Atiku made it clear that leadership and destiny aren’t determined by the opinions of former associates or critics, but by the will of the people and, ultimately, God. He reminded Nigerians that his journey in politics has always been about public service and the fight for a better Nigeria, not personal ambition. He also pointed out the irony of Bwala once defending his political vision, only to now make declarations about divine plans.
The former vice president said that while political defections and shifting loyalties are nothing new in Nigeria, they should be handled with maturity. In his words, “No one man decides the outcome of a people’s democratic will and certainly not a former aide turned political commentator.”
