Atiku Abubakar is calling out the President not for policy or politics, but for parenting. In a strong statement released this week, the former vice president and PDP presidential candidate urged President Bola Tinubu to caution his son, Seyi Tinubu, over disturbing allegations involving coercion, assault, and political pressure.
The accusations emerged after Atiku Isah, president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), claimed that Seyi Tinubu had been involved in a range of misconduct including physical assault, abduction, and bribery all allegedly aimed at forcing political support for his father’s administration.
Atiku responded quickly, describing the allegations as serious and unacceptable. “This is not the kind of democracy Nigerians fought for,” he said. “We cannot allow anyone especially not family members of the President to use intimidation to win loyalty.” He warned that if the younger Tinubu is allowed to act unchecked, it could create a dangerous culture of impunity.
The statement has fueled public debate, with many Nigerians questioning why Seyi Tinubu seems to be operating so visibly and forcefully in the political space. For Atiku, the issue is about principle, not personal rivalry. He said the President has a duty to protect the sanctity of democratic engagement and called for an immediate investigation into the claims.
The Presidency has not yet responded, but the story continues to gain traction. Whether the allegations are substantiated or not, they’ve added another layer of tension to an already charged political environment.
