Former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau.
In a condolence message shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, Atiku described the late monarch as a distinguished statesman and a custodian of tradition, whose reign was marked by “wisdom, integrity, and a strong commitment to peace and development.”
“I have received the news of the passing of His Royal Highness, Dr Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau, with deep sorrow,” Atiku posted.
He noted that the Emir’s passing is a profound loss not only to the Gusau Emirate and Zamfara State but to Nigeria as a whole, given the monarch’s role in fostering unity and development throughout his tenure.
Atiku, who also holds the traditional title of Wazirin Adamawa, extended his heartfelt condolences to the late Emir’s family, the Gusau Emirate Council, and the people of Zamfara State, praying for strength and comfort in this period of mourning.
“May Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus,” he prayed.
Dr. Ibrahim Bello, whose reign as Emir of Gusau earned respect across political and religious lines, was known for his advocacy for peaceful coexistence, educational development, and community leadership. His death has drawn tributes from leaders across the country.
