Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has fired back at Nyesom Wike, accusing the FCT Minister of hypocrisy after Wike said Atiku and others were only pushing for an opposition coalition out of selfish ambition. Atiku, who led the PDP ticket in 2023, didn’t hold back. He said Wike has no moral authority to talk about sincerity, given his own record of betrayal within the party.

The war of words stems from renewed efforts among opposition figures to form a united political front before 2027. Wike, who has become increasingly aligned with the ruling APC since the last election, dismissed these moves as opportunistic. But Atiku sees that as rich, coming from someone he believes undermined the PDP from within at a crucial moment.

During the 2023 elections, Wike openly supported a rival party after falling out with Atiku over the presidential ticket. That move was widely seen as a factor in the PDP’s poor performance. Since then, the relationship between the two men has only worsened, with public jabs becoming more frequent.

Atiku’s camp has labeled Wike as someone driven more by personal ambition than by party loyalty or national interest. They argue that Wike’s recent comments aren’t about principle—they’re about power. As the dust begins to stir for the next election cycle, it’s clear that old wounds in the PDP are far from healed.

Atiku and Wike are going at it again, with Atiku calling out Wike for hypocrisy over his stance on opposition coalition talks.
