A political storm may be brewing ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections as an insider from Atiku Abubakar’s camp has confirmed that the former Vice President is open to joining forces with Peter Obi of the Labour Party. The goal? To mount a united front and unseat incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The insider revealed that preliminary talks have been held between both camps, with a shared interest in forming a strong opposition coalition. The discussions are reportedly focused on bridging ideological and strategic gaps between the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party, with Atiku showing particular interest in leveraging Obi’s youth appeal and credibility among the electorate.
Although the alliance is still in the exploratory phase, the possibility of two of Nigeria’s most prominent opposition figures teaming up has already sparked intense political debate. Many observers believe that a joint Atiku-Obi ticket, or even a broader coalition, could pose a serious challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
As Nigeria grapples with economic hardship, insecurity, and increasing disillusionment among the populace, the appetite for real political change may fuel momentum behind this alliance. Whether the two leaders can overcome past differences and align on policy remains to be seen, but the message is clear: the opposition is getting ready to fight for Aso Rock.
