In a message on his (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, expressed his condolences to the family of Honourable Babagana Tijjani Banki following his passing.
Atiku wrote:
“I received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of our brother and statesman, Rt. Hon. Babagana Tijjani Banki. His death is a loss not just to his beloved hometown of Banki but also to Borno State and Nigeria at large.”
According to Atiku, Rt Hon Banki was a man of great compassion who supported his people throughout trying times and was a pillar of his community, a mediator, and a voice of knowledge. That he (Banki) dedicated himself to the service for decades, serving three consecutive terms in the House of Representatives (1999–2011) as the representative for the Bama, Ngala, and Kala-Balge Federal Constituencies. Later, he held the position of commissioner three times.
“His courage, guidance, and unwavering commitment to peace and development will remain in our memories. He was not just a public servant; he was a brother, a mentor, and a true statesman whose words always came with sincerity and warmth”, he added.
Atiku regards Bank’s passing as a “monumental loss” and wishes his people and family the fortitude to bear his passing.
