Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has held a meeting with the management of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to tackle difficulties residents face in obtaining their national identification.

The meeting took place on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the Lagos House, Marina, according to a statement shared by the governor on his verified X handle.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said discussions centered on improving efficiency in the issuance of National Identification Numbers (NIN) and easing the burden on Lagosians struggling with delays and accessibility.

“We discussed the challenges Lagosians face in accessing their national identification and explored ways to make the process easier and faster. I remain committed to working with NIMC to ease this burden for our people,” the statement read in part.

The development comes amid growing calls for streamlined identity management processes across Nigeria, with Lagos—home to over 20 million residents—identified as a priority state in the nationwide registration drive.
