The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Miss Ruth Otabor, a victim of the August 11, 2025, crash involving a Dangote truck and a commercial motorcycle near the Sports Complex of Auchi Polytechnic, along Auchi Road, Edo State.

Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide conveyed the reaction on behalf of the Corps on X and confirmed that despite medical interventions, the deceased succumbed to her injuries. He conveyed the condolences of the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, who, on behalf of the management and staff of the FRSC, extended sympathies to the family of the deceased, the Students’ Union, and the Auchi Polytechnic community. He also prayed for the repose of her soul.

Following the incident, the FRSC noted that it immediately engaged critical stakeholders to prevent similar occurrences. This included convening a meeting with the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to address concerns and provide updates on ongoing safety measures. The Corps has also intensified collaborations with major fleet operators—such as Dangote, BUA, and other heavy truck companies—through structured driver training and recertification programmes.

Reaffirming its commitment to road safety, the Corps Marshal stressed that the tragedy serves as a reminder of the need for collective responsibility in ensuring safer roads. He assured the public that the FRSC will continue to strengthen enforcement, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement to reduce road traffic crashes nationwide.

The Corps once again extended its condolences to the bereaved family and pledged its dedication to protecting lives on Nigeria’s roads.
