Nigeria and Brazil have signed a new Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) to resume direct flights between the two countries on more liberal terms, aimed at boosting trade, tourism, education, agriculture, and commerce.

The agreement was signed on Monday, August 25, 2025, in Brasilia, the Brazilian capital, by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, and Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho.

The signing ceremony was presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Minister Keyamo, in a statement, described the agreement as a significant step toward strengthening relations between Africa’s and South America’s largest economies.

“The new BASA is aimed at resuming direct flights between the biggest economies on both continents on more liberal terms in order to promote trade, tourism, agriculture, education and commerce,” he said.
