The Nigeria Police Force has announced significant breakthroughs in recent anti-crime operations across Kebbi and Abia States, resulting in the rescue of five kidnapped victims, the dismantling of a notorious kidnapping gang, and the recovery of arms and ammunition.
A press release from the Force Headquarters on Monday, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the operations reflected Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s push for security operatives to sustain momentum in the fight against criminality nationwide.
In Kebbi State, police operatives, working in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes, rescued three kidnapped victims — Muhammad Nasamu Namata (25), Gide Namata (20), and Hamidu Alhaji Namani (35) — who were abducted on July 27, 2025, from Sangara Village, Shanga Local Government Area.
The rescue followed a coordinated search-and-rescue mission in the Shanga Hills, where the kidnappers were engaged in a fierce gun duel. The armed gang fled with gunshot wounds, leaving the victims unharmed.
In a separate operation on August 15, police operatives on routine patrol around Dankade Village in Ribah District, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, engaged armed bandits and freed two abducted herders, Tukur Bello (26) and Isyaka Abubakar (25). The victims had been kidnapped on August 9 while grazing cattle in Gairi Forest, Zamfara State, and have since been reunited with their families.
Meanwhile, in Abia State, police stormed a kidnapper’s den in Umuiku Obete Village, Ukwa West Local Government Area, following credible intelligence. The gang, which had been terrorizing residents and commuters along Umuozo Village and Uratta Road, off Port Harcourt Road, opened fire on sighting security operatives.
The operatives responded with superior firepower, neutralizing five members of the syndicate. Recovered from the scene were six AK-47 rifles, 335 rounds of live ammunition, 14 magazines, five handsets, three cutlasses, five operational jackets, an axe, a pair of boots, one polo charm, and a double-barrelled long gun. Police say follow-up operations are underway to apprehend fleeing suspects.
Commending the officers involved, IGP Egbetokun praised their bravery and urged them to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the country.
“The IGP has again assured members of the public of the continued resolve of the Force to combat crime in all forms and maintain law and order across the nation,” the statement concluded.
