The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the successful arrest and repatriation of a high-profile fugitive, Mr Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China, following a landmark international operation coordinated through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 24, 2025, by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF disclosed that the operation was carried out in close collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria. The move underscores the Force’s unwavering commitment to combating transnational organized crime.

According to the statement, Dai Qisheng, a notorious gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province, China, was accused of orchestrating and leading violent organized crimes. He fled China in 2024 after a warrant was issued for his arrest by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County, and sought refuge in Nigeria.

Operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja tracked, monitored, and arrested Qisheng in Abuja on August 8, 2025. He was subsequently repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under the framework of police-to-police cooperation coordinated by INTERPOL.

The Police described the operation as a strong reaffirmation that Nigeria will not serve as a safe haven for international fugitives, stressing the importance of global partnerships in dismantling criminal networks that transcend borders.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, commended the successful mission, noting that the case highlights the Force’s commitment to strengthening international alliances through intelligence-sharing and operational collaboration.

He emphasized that the repatriation of Dai Qisheng sends a strong message to criminal elements worldwide: “The Federal Republic of Nigeria will not be a hiding place for fugitives.”
