Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester City duo, Ilkay Gündogan and Manuel Akanji, have been left out of the squad for today’s fixture against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League match, fueling speculation that both players could be on their way out of the club in the coming days.
In a post shared on his verified X handle on August 23, 2025, Romano revealed, “Ilkay Gündogan and Manuel Akanji, not in the squad for Man City today, as both could leave the club in the next days,” he said.
“Éderson, again on the bench… as City discuss with Galatasaray and could then sign Gianluigi Donnarumma,” Romano added.
The update suggests that significant changes could be underway in Pep Guardiola’s squad, with Gündogan and Akanji’s absence raising eyebrows among fans and analysts. Both players have been central figures in recent seasons, but their omission points to potential transfer moves before the window closes.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Éderson’s situation also remains uncertain as City continue talks with Galatasaray, with plans reportedly in motion to bring in Italian shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma as a replacement.
The developments mark what could be a major shake-up in Manchester City’s squad composition as the transfer deadline approaches.
