Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has opened up about his personal journey living with albinism, recounting how he endured bullying, body shaming, and rejection while growing up. He said despite those challenges, God’s grace has lifted him to a place of pride and responsibility, inspiring him to honour and recognise others living with the condition.

As part of his Arise Agenda, Governor Eno shared a video message on his verified X handle on August 21, 2025, monitored by our correspondent.

“Growing up with albinism wasn’t easy; I faced bullying, body shaming, and rejection. But today, by God’s grace, I stand proudly. That’s why whenever I see anyone with this skin condition, I make it a point to honour and recognise them,” he said.

The governor described people with albinism as “golden” and noted that, with him in office, “they also have a golden governor.” He recalled that at the start of his political campaign, some critics rejected the idea of an albino governor. However, his wife’s words gave him strength: “You may be an albino to them, but to me, you are my golden boy.”

Governor Eno added that, in the past, society often denied people with albinism opportunities, mocked them, and silenced them. But he believes God has brought them into the spotlight, and he pledged to continue celebrating and recognising individuals living with the condition.
