Turkish giants Galatasaray have stepped up their pursuit of Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji, with negotiations currently ongoing in the United Kingdom.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who confirmed the development on August 20, 2025, discussions are underway between Galatasaray, Manchester City, and the player’s representatives. However, no final agreement has been reached at this stage.
Manchester City are reportedly open to parting ways with the Swiss international as manager Pep Guardiola looks to trim his squad ahead of the new season. Akanji, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has played a key role in the club’s recent successes but now faces an uncertain future at the Etihad Stadium.
Galatasaray are said to be determined to strengthen their defensive options and view Akanji as a top target. The Istanbul club will continue to push talks in the coming days as they aim to secure a breakthrough in negotiations.
