Elon Musk’s Tesla has commenced real-world testing of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised software on public roads in Yokohama, Japan, marking a significant step forward in the company’s global autonomous driving ambitions.

The automaker showcased the development in a video posted on its official Tesla AI X handle, which featured the system smoothly navigating the city’s busy traffic corridors. The test underscores Tesla’s push for broader regulatory approvals as it works toward scaling the technology worldwide.

“Testing FSD Supervised in Yokohama city south of Tokyo – one of the first Japanese ports that was opened to foreign trade,” the company wrote in its post.

Tesla’s decision to trial FSD in Yokohama highlights its strategy to fine-tune autonomous systems for dense, right-hand-drive urban markets, where traffic and regulatory challenges are complex.

While technology enthusiasts hailed the milestone as a breakthrough for future mobility, critics cautioned that stringent regulations and safety concerns remain critical hurdles before full deployment can be realized.
