Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that the war in Ukraine might have been avoided if U.S. President Donald Trump had been in office during 2022.

Speaking during after a summit with Trump in Anchorage, Alaska, Putin remarked that he agreed with Trump’s claim that Russia would not have launched its invasion of Ukraine under his administration.

“Today when President Trump said that if he was the President back then there would be no war, and I’m quite sure that it would indeed be so,” Putin stated, according to a video shared by Fox News on X and monitored by our correspondent.

While the two leaders described their talks as “productive,” no formal agreement was reached to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The discussions reportedly covered a range of international issues, but both sides stopped short of concrete commitments.

Putin’s comment is expected to stir controversy in Washington, particularly among Democrats, who have consistently criticized Trump’s foreign policy stance toward Russia.

The Anchorage summit marks a rare face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since Trump left office, drawing global attention at a time when the war in Ukraine continues to reshape international security dynamics.
