The Nigerian Navy decorated seven of its newly promoted officers with their new ranks at a ceremony held at the Naval Headquarters, Abuja on Friday, August 15, 2025.

The event, known in naval tradition as the “Shipping of Stripes,” was announced in a statement on the Navy’s official Facebook and X accounts, describing it as a significant milestone in the careers of the officers and a recognition of their exceptional dedication to service.

Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, congratulated the officers and their spouses, commending their professionalism and commitment to national service. He stressed that the promotions were not only personal achievements but also reflected the vital role of family support in enabling officers to perform their duties effectively.

“You must now rise to the expectation of leadership, professionalism, and excellence,” Vice Admiral Ogalla charged the officers. “This is not just a new rank—it is a call to greater responsibility as Lieutenant Commanders in the NN. You must put in your best effort to combat insecurity and maritime crimes.”

The seven officers elevated to the rank of Lieutenant Commander are:

Lieutenant Ugo Chukwu

Lieutenant David Fagorusi

Lieutenant Bello Muhammad

Lieutenant Abubakar Sani

Lieutenant Elizabeth Aina-Kehinde

Lieutenant Gideon Danjuma

Lieutenant Stella Ikuesan-Daniel

The ceremony was attended by family members of the officers, Branch Chiefs, Directors, senior officers, and well-wishers.
