The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has ramped up efforts to drive the Federal Government’s trade reform agenda through deeper collaboration with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the National Single Window (NSW) Secretariat.

On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), hosted FIRS Executive Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, and NSW Project Director, Mr. Tola Fakolade, at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja for a high-level strategy session.

The meeting assessed progress on the Nigerian National Single Window Project and agreed on the final steps towards its operational rollout in the first quarter of 2026.

CGC Adeniyi described the National Single Window as a “transformational initiative that will reshape Nigeria’s trade landscape”, stressing that its success relies on strong inter-agency synergy.

“This project is not just about technology; it is about building a modern trade ecosystem where government agencies work as one to serve the trading community with efficiency, transparency, and speed,” he said.

Launched in April 2024 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian National Single Window is a unified digital platform designed to connect all trade-related government agencies. It is expected to slash bureaucratic delays, cut cargo clearance times, lower operational costs, and boost Nigeria’s global trade competitiveness.

Dr. Adedeji reaffirmed FIRS’ full commitment to the initiative, highlighting its potential to improve compliance, drive revenue growth, and enhance the ease of doing business.

Mr. Fakolade urged all participating agencies to adhere to their integration deadlines to keep the Q1 2026 launch on schedule.

The session ended with a joint pledge by the NCS, FIRS, and NSW Secretariat to accelerate technical integration, sustain stakeholder engagement, and ensure public updates throughout the implementation process.

Once fully operational, the platform is projected to strengthen revenue collection, create jobs, improve compliance, and deliver tangible benefits for businesses, government, and consumers alike.
