President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the constitution of the boards of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), both operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
The announcement was contained in a statement posted on the Presidency’s official X handle on August 12, 2025, and conveyed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Idris Olorunnimbe was named Chairman of the NCC, while Dr. Aminu Waida retains his position as Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, having been appointed in October 2023 and confirmed by the Senate the following month.
Olorunnimbe previously served on the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Board, where he chaired the Stakeholder and Governance Committee and spearheaded youth employment and entrepreneurship programmes.

For the USPF board, President Tinubu appointed Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, as Chairman, with Idris Olorunnimbe serving as Vice Chairman.

The Federal Government reiterated that the USPF was established to drive universal access to information and communication technologies (ICTs) in rural, unserved, and underserved areas, aligning with national policy goals for digital inclusion.
