London has recorded a notable decline in robbery, theft, residential burglary, and knife crime, according to the latest figures released by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) for the first quarter of 2025–2026.
The data shows knife crime down by 19%, residential burglary reduced by 10%, theft from persons lower by 13%, and personal robbery also falling by 13%. While the figures indicate progress in tackling crime across the capital, city leaders say continued efforts are necessary to sustain and deepen these improvements.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, in a post on his verified X handle, welcomed the development, attributing the progress to record levels of funding from City Hall and a strategic focus by the Metropolitan Police Service on high-visibility policing.
“The latest figures show robbery, theft, residential burglary and knife crime are down in London,” Khan wrote. “But there’s still a long way to go before I’m satisfied. Backed with record funding from City Hall, the Met is putting high-visibility policing at the heart of fighting crime,” he added.
The Mayor emphasised that visible policing and targeted interventions remain central to the fight against crime, pledging to work closely with the Met to ensure these positive trends continue.
