United States Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced Thursday that the State Department and Department of Justice (DOJ) have placed a $50 million reward for information leading to the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, citing his alleged role in large-scale narcotics trafficking and links to violent criminal networks.
In a video posted on her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Bondi declared:
“Today, the Department of Justice and State Department are announcing a historic 50 million dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of Nicolás Maduro. Maduro uses former terrorist organizations like TDA [Tren de Aragua], Sinaloa, and Cartel of the Suns to bring deadly drugs and violence into our country.”
Bondi revealed that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has seized 30 tons of cocaine linked to Maduro and his associates, with nearly 7 tons directly tied to the Venezuelan leader. She noted that these narcotics serve as a primary source of income for cartels operating in Venezuela and Mexico, with cocaine often being laced with fentanyl — a deadly combination that has fueled America’s opioid crisis.
The Attorney General further disclosed that U.S. authorities have seized over $700 million in assets connected to Maduro, including two private jets and nine vehicles. Despite these actions, she said, Maduro’s “reign of terror” continues.
“He is one of the largest narcotics traffickers in the world, and a threat to our national security,” Bondi stated. “Therefore, we double his reward to 50 million dollars. Under President Trump’s leadership, Maduro will not escape justice, and he will be held accountable for his despicable crimes.”
The announcement marks one of the largest rewards ever offered by the U.S. government for a foreign head of state, underscoring Washington’s escalating pressure on the Maduro administration amid ongoing diplomatic and criminal disputes between the two countries.
