In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on August 4 2025, Honourable Wahab said he fully understands the frustration expressed by citizens and reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving flooding challenges through strategic infrastructure projects.
“The ongoing drainage project in the area was awarded by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as a permanent solution to flooding in Ikorodu,” Wahab stated.
He disclosed that the project is still in progress and that immediate action has been taken to address the current discomfort. The contractor has been instructed to commence excavation toward the discharge point without delay, with priority placed on the construction of culverts, which are critical to water flow and drainage functionality.
“The concrete lining component of the project will continue once the culvert construction has been stabilised,” he added.
Wahab apologised for the temporary inconveniences faced by residents and assured them that the state government is laying the groundwork for a sustainable fix that will improve the quality of life in the area.
“We are not only responding to flooding — we are building infrastructure that works and endures,” he said.
The Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources called on residents to remain patient as work progresses, emphasizing that their concerns are valid and being acted upon.
The commissioner’s response comes as Lagos continues its wider push to strengthen flood resilience in vulnerable areas across the state, especially during the peak of the rainy season.
