The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has inaugurated the ultra-modern Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Auditorium Complex in Uyo, marking a major milestone in government-media collaboration within the state.

The announcement was made via the Governor’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, August 1, 2025. The event was also highlighted by the presentation of brand-new cars to members of the State Working Committee of the NUJ.

In what Governor Eno described as an “emotional moment,” the new auditorium was named in honour of his late wife, Patience Kemi Umo Eno, a gesture he deeply appreciated.

“I’m grateful to our journalists for promoting the ARISE Agenda and the Akwa Ibom project, choosing collaboration over conflict, and showing true faith in the development and progress of our State,” the Governor wrote.

As part of his appreciation for the media’s role in advancing the state’s development priorities, Governor Eno also announced a new political appointment:

“I also offered the outgoing Chairman of the NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Amos Etuk, an appointment as my Senior Special Assistant on Local Media.”

The NUJ Auditorium Complex is expected to serve as a hub for journalistic activity, press engagements, and training programs, significantly enhancing the working environment and operational capacity of media professionals in the state.

Governor Eno reiterated his commitment to a sustained and respectful partnership with the press, emphasizing the media’s critical role in holding government accountable and informing the public.

“We will continue to work hand in hand with the media to build a stronger, more progressive Akwa Ibom,” he stated.

The inauguration event was attended by government officials, media executives, civil society representatives, and members of the public, many of whom praised the Governor’s gesture as a strong symbol of respect for journalism and democratic engagement in Akwa Ibom.
