Arsenal FC have completed the signing of prolific Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP in a high-profile deal worth £63.5 million, marking a major boost to Mikel Arteta’s attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

The 26-year-old forward has signed a five-year contract with the North London club and has already linked up with his new teammates during Arsenal’s preseason tour of Asia, where he participated in training drills and tactical sessions under the watchful eye of the coaching staff.

Gyökeres arrives at the Emirates Stadium following a remarkable season in Portugal, where he netted an astonishing 43 goals across all competitions for Sporting CP, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards. His powerful presence, tireless work ethic, and clinical finishing are expected to complement Arsenal’s dynamic front line.

“Viktor is a player we’ve monitored closely for a long time,” said manager Mikel Arteta. “His hunger for goals, movement off the ball, and relentless mentality make him a perfect fit for the kind of football we want to play.”

Arsenal’s technical director Edu Gaspar also praised the signing, calling it a “statement of intent” as the Gunners aim to challenge for major silverware this season following their second-place finish in last year’s Premier League campaign.

The transfer is Arsenal’s second major signing of the summer window and is seen as a strategic move to add depth and firepower to their squad as they prepare for the demands of both domestic and European competitions.

Gyökeres, who has 23 caps for the Swedish national team, expressed his excitement about the move.

“Joining Arsenal is a dream come true. I’ve followed the club for many years, and I’m excited to be part of this project. I’m here to score goals and help the team win.”

With his arrival, Arsenal fans will be eager to see how Gyökeres adapts to the Premier League and whether he can replicate his incredible scoring form on English soil. He is expected to make his unofficial debut in Arsenal’s next preseason fixture later this week.
