Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, has announced that the Federal Government has initiated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a consortium comprising the Dalberg Group and Campo Group, in a bold move to strengthen the country’s Green Legacy Programme.

The announcement was made via the Vice President’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, following a strategic meeting held on Monday, July 28, 2025, with representatives of the consortium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations Food Systems Summit, where global leaders are converging to advance sustainable food systems and environmental initiatives.

Discussions during the meeting focused on replicating Ethiopia’s success story of planting 46 billion trees, which has become a global model for large-scale afforestation and environmental restoration.

In his post, Vice President Shettima stated:

“We have very tall and ambitious projects here, and where there is a will, there is always a way. But experience is not something you buy in the market square. You have to have it, and you have to earn it by supporting the Ethiopian government to succeed.”

The MoU is expected to pave the way for Nigeria to adopt innovative tree-planting models and reforestation strategies, drawing on the technical expertise and field experience of the Dalberg and Campo Groups. The initiative also aligns with Nigeria’s broader climate and sustainability goals under the Green Legacy Programme, which seeks to combat desertification, restore degraded lands, and enhance biodiversity.

This partnership underscores Nigeria’s commitment to climate action and positions the country to benefit from global knowledge exchange and investment in nature-based solutions. Further details regarding the implementation framework, targets, and timelines are anticipated in the coming weeks.
