The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) unwavering dedication to youth development and quality education during the Joint Passing Out Parade of the Air Force Military School (AFMS) and Air Force Girls Military School (AFGMS) in Jos, Plateau State.

The announcement, shared via the official NAF X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, came as part of a momentous occasion marking AFMS’s 45th anniversary. The event celebrated the institution’s rich legacy of excellence, having produced over 6,200 graduates who have distinguished themselves in various sectors both within Nigeria and internationally.

Reflecting on his time as an instructor at AFMS nearly three decades ago, Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized the enduring value of military-style education in shaping disciplined, resilient, and visionary leaders. He praised the AFMS Alumni Association for their continued support and contributions toward the development of the school.

“Our institutions are among the most sought-after in Nigeria today because of our unwavering commitment to excellence. Through deliberate policies, we are raising the bar in education and leadership,” the CAS said.

In line with this commitment, the Air Marshal announced the establishment of new NAF schools in Abuja, Igbara-Oke (Ondo State), and Kaduna, alongside plans to harmonize NAFOWA-owned schools into a unified educational system. He also revealed upcoming infrastructure upgrades at AFMS, including enhanced feeding systems and access to clean water.

A major highlight of the event was the announcement of the revival of a programme to absorb Ex-Junior Airmen and Airwomen into the Nigerian Air Force, offering graduates of AFMS and AFGMS a direct pathway into military service following further training. The CAS said the initiative is designed to strengthen NAF’s human capital while preserving its core values.

Addressing the graduating students, Air Marshal Abubakar hailed their discipline and precision, calling them “the future of Nigeria.” He urged them to lead lives marked by purpose, responsibility, and integrity.

He also extended gratitude to the leadership, staff, and instructors of both schools for their tireless dedication and efforts in nurturing Nigeria’s next generation of leaders.

The CAS further lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s steadfast support for youth development and military education, stating:

“The greatness of any nation lies not only in its weapons but in the quality of its people.”

The ceremony ended with an impressive parade and file past, drawing loud applause from the audience, which included senior military officers, dignitaries, parents, alumni, and well-wishers. The event was a vibrant reminder of the transformative role AFMS and AFGMS continue to play in molding the leaders and defenders of tomorrow’s Nigeria.
