Everton Football Club is in advanced negotiations to secure the signing of highly-rated Belgian winger Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyonnais, according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Romano shared the update on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, stating:
“Everton are in advanced talks to sign Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyon. Official bid submitted and clubs now in direct talks, with Everton also in contact with player’s camp. Everton in discussions on personal terms with Fofana, talks underway.”
The 20-year-old Fofana, known for his pace, technical skill, and creativity in wide areas, has emerged as one of Europe’s most promising young talents. He made significant progress last season in Ligue 1 and has been closely monitored by several Premier League clubs.
Everton’s official bid has reportedly opened direct negotiations with Lyon, who are under financial pressure to offload players this summer to comply with domestic spending rules. The Toffees are now working on agreeing personal terms with Fofana and his representatives as they look to finalise the deal swiftly.
The move is seen as part of Everton’s broader strategy to inject youth and dynamism into their squad ahead of the new Premier League season. Manager Sean Dyche is believed to be keen on blending young prospects with experienced heads to revitalize the club’s attacking options.
If completed, Fofana would become one of the club’s marquee signings of the summer, joining an evolving Everton side aiming for a strong showing in the 2025–26 campaign.
