The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has recorded a string of successful operations leading to the rescue of kidnapped victims and the recovery of illegal arms across Kogi, Lagos, and Katsina States, according to a press release shared by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, via the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the NPF.
In a statement detailing the recent achievements, the police attributed the breakthroughs to sustained intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and boosting public confidence in the Force’s capacity to protect lives and property.
Kidnap Attempt Foiled in Kogi State
On June 23, 2025, officers attached to the Kogi State Police Command, while on routine patrol along the Obajana–Oshokoshoko Road, thwarted a kidnapping attempt involving three commercial vehicles. The operatives engaged the armed kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, successfully rescuing all 24 abducted victims unhurt.
Just a day earlier, on June 22, personnel from the Okene Division intercepted a suspicious Nissan vehicle heading towards Auchi. The driver fled into the forest, abandoning the vehicle. A search uncovered an AK-47 rifle, 28 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, a G3 magazine, phone accessories, and other personal belongings. Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.
Abduction Foiled in Lagos
In Lagos State, police operatives responded swiftly to intelligence regarding a kidnapping in the Ikoga area of Morogbo. A 20-year-old male, Kehinde, who was abducted after being lured via WhatsApp, was held for a ₦500,000 ransom. The police moved in rapidly, arresting three suspects identified as Celestine Okeke (28), Michael Okonkwo (25), and Kehinde Oladun (30). The victim was rescued unharmed and has since been reunited with his family.
Attack Repelled in Katsina
In Katsina State, operatives responded to reports of a kidnap attempt in Mazare village. The officers engaged the kidnappers in a gunfight, overpowering them with superior firepower. The attackers fled with gunshot wounds, leaving behind four kidnapped victims, who were successfully rescued unhurt.
IGP Commends Gallant Officers
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, commended the operatives’ bravery and precision, describing their actions as a testament to the effectiveness of strategic, intelligence-led policing.
“These results show the power of professionalism and commitment,” Egbetokun said. “I urge our officers to maintain the momentum and ensure that no part of Nigeria remains a safe haven for criminals.”
The IGP reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to swift operational response, inter-agency collaboration, and public engagement, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities.
