Wunmi Aloba, the widow of late Nigerian musician Mohbad (Ilerioluwa Aloba), celebrated her late husband on Father’s Day on Instagram on Sunday, over nine months after his shocking death stunned the country, in a heartbreaking and incredibly poignant homage.

Wunmi, who has a young baby with the deceased Afrobeats artist, shared a heartfelt statement on social media that has now gone viral, evoking admirers’ emotions and accolades.

“Happy Father’s Day to the greatest father that ever lived!. Even in de@th you still showed up, I feel it all the time, keep watching over Liam”, she said.

The Instagram post featured a black-and-white photo of Mohbad holding their baby boy — a moment many described as “pure and frozen in time.” The caption has left fans emotional, as it hints at both grief and a lingering spiritual connection.

Fans React: “This Broke Me”
Within hours, Wunmi’s tribute drew thousands of comments and shares, with fans and celebrities pouring out support in the comment section.

“This broke me 😢. He didn’t deserve what happened,” one fan wrote.
“Sending love and strength to you and your son, Wunmi,” another added.

Additionally, the letter rekindled discussions about the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s premature death in September 2024, which led to several enquiries and nationwide demonstrations. Many people think the singer was the victim of bullying, exploitation, and coercion from the industry, even though specifics are still unclear.

Wunmi has been outspoken since his death in her pursuit of justice for her late husband and in an effort to uphold his legacy for their son, Liam. One of the few occasions in recent months that she has made a public post on Mohbad is Sunday’s tribute.

Music lovers and public figures have continued to stream and share Mohbad’s music, which has gained posthumous recognition across Africa and beyond.

“Fatherhood was something Mohbad was proud of,” a close friend said. “Even though he left too soon, it’s clear his love for his son lives on.”

As Father’s Day celebrations unfolded across the country, Wunmi’s heartfelt words served as a poignant reminder that love doesn’t end with death — especially the love of a father.
