Tope Fasua, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Economic Affairs, is fed up with how Nigeria’s economy is portrayed. In a recent video posted by Channels Television on YouTube, Fasua didn’t hold back his frustration. With an emotional tone, he said what many in government circles may have felt but rarely say publicly: “We are tired and sick and tired of all of this bad news about Nigeria.”

Fasua’s statement wasn’t just a rant. It was a call to shift the narrative. He acknowledged that Nigeria is going through tough times, from inflation to unemployment to a weakening naira, but he also insisted that these aren’t the whole story. According to him, there is real progress happening in areas like infrastructure, digital innovation, and fiscal reforms that rarely make the headlines.

What bothers Fasua is how the constant stream of negativity overshadows the efforts being made. He believes this one-sided picture affects more than just national morale. It scares off investors, discourages young people, and fosters hopelessness. He urged journalists, commentators, and everyday Nigerians to not ignore the problems but to balance the conversation by also recognizing the wins.

“We need hope to move forward,” he said. “If all we do is tear ourselves down, how do we build?” For Fasua, fixing the economy isn’t just about numbers. It’s about mindset, trust, and unity in purpose

If the economy is doing wonderfully, definitely, citizens will start praising the President policies but not when citizens are under crushing suffering.
