Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a seasoned public servant and former special adviser to President Bola Tinubu in the office of Vice President Kashim Shettima, has delivered a blunt assessment of Nigeria’s political stagnation. In a recent statement reported by the Daily Post, Baba-Ahmed called on established political figures including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to step aside and allow a new generation of leaders to take charge in 2027.

Baba-Ahmed didn’t question the patriotism or capability of these former presidential candidates, but he pointed out a glaring problem: the country is stuck. The old faces, according to him, keep returning with the same approaches and the same limitations. He argued that Nigeria needs bold, innovative leadership, not a repeat of familiar campaigns and recycled promises. For him, the issue isn’t just about age but about ideas, fresh thinking, new energy, and a genuine break from the old political order.

His statement comes at a time when many young Nigerians are feeling shut out of the political process. Baba-Ahmed’s comments echoed a growing sentiment among citizens who believe that the nation’s problems;economic decay, insecurity, institutional collapse cannot be solved by the same individuals who have been at the helm for decades. While some may see his remarks as controversial, others view them as a long-overdue challenge to a political culture that often favors continuity over competence.

His call wasn’t just for change,it was for honest self-reflection within the political class. Baba-Ahmed emphasized that making way for younger leaders isn’t a sign of weakness or failure, but a necessary act of statesmanship in a country desperate for direction.
