Justice James Omotosho has drawn a line in the sand: the long-running trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu must end by May 8, 2025. Speaking from the bench at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the judge made it clear that the legal system cannot keep dragging its feet. With this single statement, he has rekindled national attention on one of Nigeria’s most emotionally charged legal cases.

Kanu’s case has dragged on for nearly a decade, marked by delays, adjournments, and controversy at every turn. Justice Omotosho had enough. “This matter must come to a conclusion by the 8th of May 2025. It has lingered for 10 years, and I’m not going to stew to it more,” he declared. Then he added something deeply personal: “We are going to give account of our actions here on Earth when we die, I want to give a good account.”

His comments struck a chord and quickly spread across social media. For many Nigerians ,both supporters of Kanu and critics alike it was a rare show of moral clarity from the judiciary. People are tired. Tired of the delays, tired of the politics, and tired of seeing justice turned into a never ending loop.

The judge announced that court would reconvene on May 6, 7, and 8 for final arguments and possible rulings. His message was blunt but necessary: the law must function, and it must do so without fear or favor. “Justice cannot be stalled indefinitely,” he said. And with that, the countdown began.
