Controversial Nigerian artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has found himself on the wrong side of the law. A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ifo, Ogun State, sentenced the singer to three months in prison after he was found guilty of assaulting a police officer and resisting lawful arrest. However, the court offered him an option to pay a fine of ₦30,000 instead of serving jail time.

The incident that led to his conviction was captured in widely circulated videos where Portable could be seen pushing back aggressively against law enforcement officers who were trying to arrest him. He was shouting, resisting, and accusing the officers of harassment. What was supposed to be a routine police operation quickly turned chaotic, fueled by the singer’s outburst and refusal to cooperate.

This ruling serves as a strong reminder that fame does not place anyone above the law. While Portable’s energetic persona and eccentric lifestyle have earned him a massive following, they have also landed him in trouble multiple times. This time, however, the consequences are more serious.

The court’s decision has sparked mixed reactions online. Some believe Portable got off lightly with a fine, while others see it as a much needed wake-up call. Whatever the opinion, one thing is clear: actions have consequences, and public figures especially must be held accountable when they break the law.
