Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, isn’t mincing words about President Bola Tinubu’s political future. In a bold statement that’s already stirring conversation, Datti claimed Tinubu will not win re-election in 2027—and he’s confident about it.
Datti said there are already two strong candidates in Nigeria’s political landscape who could unseat the president. Though he stopped short of naming them, he hinted that these figures have the popularity, credibility, and capacity to lead the country more effectively. He described them as individuals who resonate with Nigerians on issues like justice, accountability, and governance.
This isn’t the first time Datti has voiced skepticism about Tinubu’s leadership. Since the 2023 election, Datti has remained critical of the administration’s approach to the economy and national unity. According to him, the tide is already shifting. With economic frustrations mounting and youth discontent growing, he believes Nigerians will be more intentional about who they support in the next election.
Datti’s comments are also being seen as a subtle nudge toward coalition-building among opposition parties. As political groups begin to test the waters for alliances, many believe the 2027 race could be far more competitive than the last one. Whether Datti’s predictions come true remains to be seen—but he’s clearly betting on change.
