Florence Otedola, better known as DJ Cuppy, is no stranger to the limelight. From deejaying at high-profile gigs to making headlines as a philanthropist and influencer, DJ Cuppy has built a brand over the past decade defined by energy, color, and confidence. But then, she recently shared something that went way deeper — raw and real: her relationship with Jesus Christ altered the trajectory of her entire career.
“Jesus disrupted my DJ career,” she said.
While, inarguably, it seemed that she would not have said, the career being disrupted is a bad prospect, as she was talking with peace in her voice, and clarity in her eyes. In Cuppy’s words, “Once I accepted Christ, my complete perspective changed.” Everything shifted. The way I view my career, my decisions, and even my ambitions have changed.
“I just love the fact that, in an industry that can be so dark, being a Christian enables me to shine bright effortlessly,” she posted. “It’s called Godfidence.”
For some, this may seem an empty declaration from a celebrity. For others, her words resonate, especially those also trying to balance ambition with internal growth.
A quiet revolution is sweeping across the young continent in Africa: people commence talking about faith, therapy, mental health, and meaning. Cuppy is one of the voices giving credibility to the movement. While she has not put down music for good, she is not hustling in the old sense anymore. She is moving toward purpose-Her purpose-wherever that may lead her, even if it means a slower pace.
Such disruption? Maybe the best kind of disruption.
