The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced on Thursday via X (formerly Twitter) that its Ibadan Zonal Office has apprehended 34 suspected internet fraudsters in the Ekiti State capital.
“Operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested thirty-four (34) suspected internet fraudsters. The alleged fraudsters were arrested in the early hours of Monday, June 23, 2025 at Iworoko and Ijado areas of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State following credible intelligence about their suspected fraudulent activities.
The coordinated operation is a reflection of the EFCC’s heightened efforts to combat online fraud and cybercrime, which have become more widespread in some regions of South-West Nigeria. Commissions continue to carry out targeted and hotspot raids throughout the zone.
Items recovered from them include eleven exotic cars, laptops, several mobile phones, incriminating documents, among others. They will be charged to court when investigations are concluded.”
The EFCC has warned that anyone caught committing internet-related fraud will suffer harsh legal repercussions as part of a larger nationwide drive on cybercriminals.
To aid in the ongoing battle against cybercrimes, members of the public are encouraged to report any suspicions of illicit internet activity to the closest EFCC office or via official means.
