Segun Sowunmi, a notable figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stirred political conversation by declaring that Peter Obi represents the most credible and authentic option for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027. Speaking passionately at a Labour Day event organized by the Obidient Movement in Abuja, Sowunmi said Obi’s record and values set him apart in a political landscape crowded with noise and posturing.
He did not mince words in describing other presidential hopefuls as “fake,” asserting that Obi’s simplicity, clarity of purpose, and dedication to reform make him the candidate Nigeria truly needs. “The future of Nigeria is in Peter Obi,” Sowunmi said, earning cheers from the crowd.
Sowunmi’s endorsement is notable, coming from within a rival political party. It signals both discontent with the current crop of political actors and a desire for a different kind of leadership rooted in accountability, transparency, and real-world solutions. He praised Obi for representing what he called “the politics of conscience” and urged Nigerians not to be swayed by money politics or propaganda.
With the 2027 election still years away, Sowunmi’s bold statement has already ignited speculation and debate. But for many supporters of Peter Obi, it was a validation of what they’ve believed all along: that he is not just a candidate, but a symbol of what the future could be
