2027 Elections: Why Atiku, Kwankwaso, and El-Rufai Won’t Stop Tinubu – HJRBDA Boss

As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections, political realignments and power plays are becoming more pronounced. However, Dr. Musa Illyasu Kwankwaso, Executive Director (Finance) of the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA), has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains unbeatable, despite talks of a possible opposition coalition.

In a recent statement, dismissed the notion that a political alliance involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai would pose a significant challenge to Tinubu’s re-election bid. He argued that Tinubu’s policies and governance style have earned him widespread support across Nigeria, making him a formidable candidate in 2027.

Opposition’s Struggle to Unite

Discussions about forming a united opposition have been gaining momentum in recent months. Political heavyweights such as Atiku, Kwankwaso, El-Rufai, and even Peter Obi have been rumored to be exploring the possibility of working together to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Despite these efforts, internal divisions, conflicting interests, and ideological differences continue to be major obstacles for the opposition.

Dr. Kwankwaso pointed out that past attempts at opposition alliances have often been short-lived due to disagreements over leadership and individual ambitions. He believes that a similar fate awaits the current discussions, as no clear structure or agreement has been established among the key players.

Tinubu’s Strength and APC’s Confidence

The ruling APC remains optimistic about Tinubu’s re-election prospects. Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC, has also echoed similar sentiments, arguing that the opposition coalition lacks a strong foundation. According to him, President Tinubu’s administration has made significant progress in addressing economic challenges, infrastructure development, and security concerns, which will translate into electoral success in 2027.

Additionally, the APC is banking on the fact that the opposition remains fragmented, with Atiku, Kwankwaso, and Obi each commanding separate followings. Without a strong and united front, the opposition may struggle to present a viable alternative to Tinubu.

The Road to 2027: What to Expect

As the political landscape continues to evolve, observers are watching closely to see whether the opposition can resolve its internal differences and present a formidable challenge to the ruling party. However, if the current trend persists, Tinubu’s dominance in the political space may remain unshaken.

With 2027 still a few years away, the battle for Nigeria’s presidency is far from settled. Yet, for now, the ruling APC appears confident that no opposition coalition can successfully halt Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Conclusion

While Atiku, Kwankwaso, El-Rufai, and other opposition figures may seek to build a grand alliance against Tinubu, history and political dynamics suggest that such efforts may face significant hurdles. Unless the opposition can unite under a single vision with a compelling strategy, Tinubu’s re-election bid might remain unchallenged.

Don’t count the opposition out just yet – a unified front among key parties could be the game-changer that takes down Tinubu.
